One day in December 2011, on the Big Island of Hawaii, I was fortunate to spend a few hours on a small fishing boat in the pouring rain and rough seas to witness the lava from Kilauea's Pu'u 'O'o Crater enter the ocean. It had just started flowing into the ocean a couple of days earlier and only lasted a couple of weeks total. The 150 foot cliffs were formed a few years back when the lava last hit the ocean at this location. This made for a very dramatic scene as the lava crested the ridge and tumbled over like a waterfall...
